An International Residency Partnership with Micromegas

27 Oct 2025

Micromégas is a media art residency co-organised by the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, Videotage, and cneai=. Designed as a recurring programme since 2021, the residency features an annual theme that fosters deeper cultural exchange between France and Hong Kong.

The 2025 edition focuses on the intersection of craftsmanship and technology, featuring artists who integrate manual craftwork and programmed production in their practices. This year, with HART HAUS and Yishu8 as Residency Partners, the programme brings together two artists — Mae Chan (Hong Kong) and Mona Cara (Paris) — for a cross-cultural exchange taking place in October and November. Both artists will research local textile artisanality and explore contemporary technologies available in their host cities.

Hong Kong-based multidisciplinary artist Mae Chan will undertake her residency at cneai= and Yishu8 in Paris, developing her textile sculpture project that integrates advanced tools such as 3D-printing, with traditional fibre techniques like wool carding and needle felting. Meanwhile, French artist Mona Cara, known for her hybrid textile works that explore the pictorial and sculptural dimensions of warp and weft, will be hosted at HART HAUS in Hong Kong, with research support from Videotage. She will study traditional weaving methods, while engaging with advanced textile design and development initiatives in the city.

They will share their exchange experiences through a public event at HART HAUS on 13 November (Thursday). Stay tuned for more information!

A Strategic Partnership between PODIUM, HART HAUS, and Eaton HK

18 Aug 2025

PODIUM, HART Haus, and Eaton HK are proud to announce a strategic partnership that bridges the gallery, not-for-profit, and hospitality sectors. Launching alongside the coming solo exhibition ‘World of Interiors’ of Berlin-based, Ürümqi-born artist Min-Jia that opens on 20 September, this collaboration aims to spark fresh dialogues through contemporary art, pioneering new collaborative models in Hong Kong’s vibrant art ecosystem.

This three-way partnership presents a holistic contemporary art experience that integrates artistic creation, commercial sustainability, and community engagement, nurturing a sustainable circulation of resources within Hong Kong’s art ecosystem. Ahead of the exhibition, HART Haus will host Min-Jia for a month-long residency, open studio, and a shadow puppetry workshop, offering collectors, patrons, arts professionals, and the public an exclusive opportunity to engage with the artist’s contemporary reinterpretation of traditional Chinese craftsmanship. Following the exhibition opening, Eaton HK will facilitate a series of community programmes and insightful talks featuring Min-Jia, master Wang Tianwen, and his assistants.

About the artist

Min-Jia (b. 2001, lives and works in Berlin) explore narratives of transformation through queer, diasporic, and disabled perspectives. Their work samples and remixes folk and ornamental arts and their global transformations—from Orientalist kitsch to Art Nouveau to manga—to re-examine fantasies of the Other across canonical and outsider art histories. They have completed a Shaanxi Huaxian shadow puppetry apprenticeship under Master Wang Tianwen in Xi’an, China, and graduated from Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). They have exhibited in group exhibitions at ACUD Galerie, Berlin (2025), Tofu Space, Copenhagen (2025), PODIUM, Hong Kong (2024), James Fuentes Gallery, New York (2024), Franz Kaka, Toronto (2024), Bernheim, London (2023), A.I. Gallery with Linseed Projects, London (2023), X Museum, Beijing (2023), Hunt Gallery, Toronto (2022), among others. Their works can be found in the collection of the Royal Bank of Canada. They are currently completing their forthcoming novel, Mechanical Tail.

New HART/Beat Learning Programmes for 2020: Rerun & Elevate

With encouraging responses from participants joining “The 5 Courses - Sharing as a Manager in the Arts Industry” in late 2019, this year HART is launching two new learning programmes under our HART/Beat series - RERUN and ELEVATE.

RERUN is the series of courses introducing art management to ’newbies’ in the arts and cultural industry. Those who are about to engage in the field, or young professionals who are fresh to the workforce are welcome to gain perspectives from each other. With the various durations set for the classes and the online sessions on offer for the same topical learning of the same subject, we hope to give flexibility and unique experiences to participants.

As for ELEVATE - the intermediate course to be conducted in this summer, we will ‘dig-deep’ into the discussions and analysis presented in the beginner course RERUN. The approach and journey, that we will co-create with you, will span from two Friday evening classes and a whole-day field trip on Saturday.
