A pair of glowing eyes appeared during a late-night journey through Tai Mo Shan. This fleeting encounter became the starting point for an exploration of the lives and stories hidden within Hong Kong’s landscape.
In this talk, artists Dorothy Wong and Benjamin Ryser will share the research, encounters, and fieldwork behind their exhibition artwork Eyes Vanishing into the Night (2026). Using trail cameras and trail microphones, they capture and trace the movements of animals across Tai Mo Shan, revealing how they navigate the spaces between urban and natural environments.
Beginning with the story of a person on the way to Kam Tin spotting the clouded leopard on Tai Mo Shan, the artists explore how we remember species that have vanished, how human and animal paths intersect, and the possibilities of coexistence within a landscape shared by many species.
Join us as we follow these stories into the forest and perhaps catch a glimpse of a pair of eyes vanishing into the night garden.
深夜途經大帽山，一雙閃爍著光芒的眼睛驟然躍入視線。這短暫而難忘的相遇，悄然拉開了藝術家探尋香港地貌中生態奧秘故事的開始。
本場講座，藝術家黃加頌與Benjamin Ryser將介紹他們為籌備展覽作品《消失在黑夜中的眼睛》（2026年）所進行的研究工作、田野考察、和奇妙的邂逅。他們借助紅外動物相機和野外錄音設備，持續追蹤大帽山上動物的行蹤軌跡，探看這些動物如何在城市與自然環境的狹縫中穿梭。講座將以一個人越過大帽山前往錦田途中，瞥見一隻雲豹的傳奇故事為切入點，深入探討我們應如何記取那些已消逝的物種、人類與動物的行動路徑如何相互交疊，以及在眾多物種共生的地貌環境中實現共存的可能。

About the Artists 關於藝術家
Dorothy Wong Ka Chung (b. 1991, Hong Kong) and Benjamin Ryser (b. 1989, Switzerland) are a Hong Kong-Swiss media and sound art duo. In recent years, they have worked in Europe, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the US, using images, videos and sounds to engage with local communities. Their focus lies in examining dispersed communities, exploring themes such as sense of belonging, identity, imagined homelands, and their intersections with politics and history. Their work collects stories from different individuals, exploring the possibility of collaboration between artists and local communities. This serves as a means of accumulating collective urban memories and fostering cross-regional community imagination. Their site-specific works have been shown in playgrounds between Hong Kong and Berlin, in supermarkets in Kowloon City and around the world, on a boat in the Venice lagoon at sunset, and in the mountains of the Truku tribe in Taiwan. They have collaborated with museums and institutions such as M+, Tai Kwun Contemporary, Goethe-Institut Hongkong, WMA (Hong Kong), Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen, Kunstmuseum Thurgau (Switzerland), SomoS Arts (Berlin), Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Hong-Gah Museum, The Cube Project Space (Taiwan), Pro Helvetia - The Swiss Arts Council in Venice (Italy).
黃加頌（1991年生於香港）和Benjamin Ryser（1989年生於 瑞士）是來自香港和瑞士的媒體聲音藝術組合，他們近年 於歐洲、香港、臺灣、美國工作，以影像、錄像與聲音介入 的在地社群。他們關注各地被遷移的群族，研究歸屬感、 身份認同、想像的家鄉，以及與政治和歷史攸關的議題。 作品透過收集不同個體的故事，探索創作者與在地社群合 作的可能性，收集不同個體的故事，去累積群體的城市記 憶和跨地域的社群想像。他們的場域特定作品曾在連接香 港與柏林之間的遊樂場、九龍城和各地城市的超級市場 裡、日落時威尼斯潟湖的船上、臺灣太魯閣族山中的部落 展出。他們亦曾與多間藝術館及機構合作，包括：M+、大 館當代美術館、香港歌德學院、WMA （香港）；Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen、Kunstmuseum Thurgau（瑞士）；SomoS Arts （柏林）；臺北市立美術館、鳳甲美術館、立方計劃空間（臺 灣）；Pro Helvetia（瑞士文化基金會）；The Swiss Arts Council in Venice（威尼斯）。
About Moderator 關於主持人
Mankit Lai is a curator, researcher and writer based in Hong Kong. His research interests lie primarily in contemporary art, with a focus on the intersection of curatorial practices, ecocriticism, socially engaged practices, and gender politics. He has contributed to exhibitions and research projects at institutions including M+, Asia Society Hong Kong, and the Palace Museum in Beijing. His writing was awarded third prize in the Arts Criticism Recognition Programme 2024 by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, and received the Emerging Writer Award from the Journal of Curatorial Studies in 2021. In 2018, he was named Laidlaw Scholar and supported by a research scholarship for his project on Chinese propaganda art at the University of Leeds and the University of Hong Kong.
賴文杰是一名香港策展人、研究員兼寫作者。他的研究重 心集中於當代藝術領域，尤其關注策展實踐、生態批評、 社會參與式實踐以及性別政治之間的交匯。他曾參與M+ 、亞洲協會香港中心及北京故宮博物院等機構的展覽策劃 與研究項目。寫作方面，他曾獲香港藝術發展局“藝評獎 勵計劃2024”三等獎，並於2021年獲《Journal of Curatorial Studies》所頒發的新銳作者獎項。2018年，他獲授予 Laidlaw學者身份，並在利茲大學與香港大學獲得研究獎 學金資助，以開展針對中國宣傳藝術的研究課題。
