We are delighted to share that Bunny Cadag, the final artist presenting live work for the exhibition ‘The Embrace and the Passage’, is hosted by HART for an artist residency in collaboration with Para Site.
During her residency, Cadag will conduct field research, including community engagement and workshops, to enrich her practice in pre- and postcolonial gender plurality, singing rituals, and healing. Often participatory and community-based, her work amplifies marginalised voices while navigating forms and spaces with empathy and generosity.
Join us this February for a series of programmes leading up to the exhibition closing—stay tuned for details and registration!
CIP Final Project - Fragments of Curiosities |「
Fragments of Curiosities, on view from September 29 to November 2, 2024 at HART Haus 3/F, is a group exhibition featuring works by Louisze Chan Pui Sze, S. Yi Yao Chao + Koel Chu, Colbie Fung Ho Pui, Sharon Lee, Natasza Minasiewicz, and Daniel Stempfer, curated by Helena Halim. The exhibition explores how objects are vessels for our memories, a material vestige of our past. The artists in the exhibition draw upon the objects they collect and salvage, to examine how they speak to personal and collective stories, unveiling pieces of our shared experiences.
This event is a part of the final project presentation of Curatorship Incubation Programme organized by HART.

Collected Light: From Legacy to Future
Presented as part of the Henderson Arts @ Central programme, which runs through March 2024, the exhibition is supported by Women in Lighting and showcases a collective of eight multidisciplinary women artists from diverse cultures, who have each forged visionary paths in their use of light as an artistic medium. As a prelude to the highly anticipated opening of The Henderson building in Fall 2024 the exhibition embraces the explosive, interplay of fluid form and light characteristic of Zaha Hadid’s artwork and space design, and found at the heart of ZHA’s design for The Henderson. Featuring innovative visual art, sculptures, moving image works, and digital installations by internationally celebrated and emerging light artists, the exhibition takes as its starting point ZHA’s inspirational design for The Henderson and the legacy of Hadid’s visionary interdisciplinary practice, her challenge to conventional perceptions, and her multi-sensory exploration of light and spatial connectivity. Collectively the works inspire inclusion and push boundaries for women creatives across disciplines, transforming an empowering legacy into a vision for the future.
CIP Final Project - '-'_@Welcome >_< Take a Seat Wherever (cringevibing on a downward spiral)@_ '-' |「
Curated by Angela Liu, “Welcome 😣 Take a Seat Wherever (cringevibing on a downward spiral)” explores the emotive language of Gen Z as well as implications of being terminally online in a confusing, almost pathologized, schizophrenic state. The exhibition brings together a selection of works from nine featured artists who draw inspiration from their mediated realities and make sense of their subjectivity through video, sculpture, painting, installation, exe file, and appropriated design image-objects.
This event is a part of the final project presentation of Curatorship Incubation Programme organized by HART.
French May Arts Fest 2023: "Luminaria" by Gisèle Tchitchiama
Opening Reception: 5 May 2023 (Fri), 6–8:30pm
Artist Talk and Guided Tour: 6 May 2023 (Sat), 2-3:30pm
During the celebration of French May Arts Fest 2023, curated by HART artist-in-residence Merryn Trevethan, “Luminaria” is Gisèle Tchitchiama’s exhibition that frames a quest for illumination through encounters with light, fragility and the ephemeral. For Gisèle, her multiple identities - French, African, woman, wife, mother, daughter - are woven into her interrogations. Presence and absence are at the heart of her ongoing artistic conversation which takes the audience on a journey into inner and outer landscapes.
The exhibition was inspired by the colour, poetry and delicacy of an unexpected moment on a journey from France to Dover, England last summer, Gisèle captured in a blurry landscape photo. This image became the starting point for an artistic journey that incorporates many creative and meaningful collaborations.
Multi-disciplinary Media Artist GayBird’s Music for 9 Exhibition
Artist Talks
“Music for 9“ is part of the The Missing Link series. Curated by Multi-disciplinary Media Artist / HK Composer GayBird and Vanissa Law, The Missing Link consists of three Arts Tech exhibitions, an immersive performance, and a series of open lectures concerning the current issues in the use of technology in arts. By introducing two essential elements in music - timeliness and performative into art forms that have not yet existed, the two composers/curators wish to inspire new creations and to offer new dimensions to existing art forms. Through the creation of multimedia artworks, the artists would explore ways to deploy technology for the sake of storytelling.
“The Arcana Intelligent 萬試萬靈” A Work by Liao Jiaming
With the recent rapid advancements of Artificial Intelligence (AI), we are led to imagine a near future through its domination. Commissioned by Videotage and supported by Hong Kong Arts Development Council, The Arcana Intelligent (2023) concludes a 6-month research by artist Liao Jiaming. It creates an experience of “divination”, combining elements of various religion, meditation, occultism, and ritual, that employs AI algorithms developed from different eras. It is an attempt to subvert current relationships between human users and computational algorithms in most AI applications. The art of divination may not simply be interpreted by the omniscient, it provides access to the inquirer’s subconscious. AI becomes a conjugate of scientific and spiritual medium, and therefore positioned beyond the divine and secular.
*The meaning of “Arcana” comes from the terms “major arcana” and “minor arcana” in tarot card reading. Arcana is the mystery sought by the alchemists of the Middle Ages, and the principle of the world.
From 11 to 29 April 2023, you will be able to experience this unique divination powered by AI at 9/F H Queen’s, alongside HART’s exhibition “Postmodern Tales”.
Curated by Kelly Chan, EXERCISING FREEDOM brings together a selection of works from four featured female Hong Kong artists who have reimagined a spectrum of physical activities from Olympics sports to amateur workouts. The exhibited works challenge the scope of existing physical exercises and present alternative and absurd solutions in the lens of a fitness fanatic.
This event is a part of the final project presentation of Curatorship Incubation Programme organized by HART.
CIP Final Project #7 - ID :: ISO LS—TTL O’JJM |「
Join us for a mini showcase of imagery through the lens of JJM for a journey without prejudice, and allow our minds to wander and experience the works of a woman, who is passionate about how light, shadow and time work in relation to people, culture, architecture and nature. A connection is made between the artist and her camera, where she leaves behind her many identities and titles to submerge in photography that tells stories. A plain and simple objective that brings perfect coincidences to her lens words cannot express.
CIP Final Project #6 - Body Canvas 2.0 - The Lingering Parts |「
Touching, Splitting, Forming;
Whispering, Lingering, Transforming.
In this experimental showcase, artists use bodies as canvas, walk through the feelings of anxiety as well as powerlessness, to express their feelings about different senses of the body. Perhaps some body parts may heal during the journey, while some remain lingering with us throughout the transformation.
Curated by Christy Hui, the key visual is an extension of her photography work from Body Canvas 1.0 series. This exhibition collaborates with six artists from various disciplines, representing their ideas on “body” in visual, acoustic and tactile experiences, creating a multi-sensory experience, which may reconstruct your recognition of “body”.
觸碰、割裂、形成;
CIP Final Project #5 - Breathing Flesh | 「
We all have and only have one body of flesh, powerful yet fragile. Incidents left us with wounds, stagnated and frozen in time; words are rendered invalid and lost. How shall we embrace our shattered pieces, continue to breathe, and live in this world?
Curated by Gigi Tang, “Breathing Flesh” has invited three emerging artists, together with the curator, to share their response to the seemingly unavoidable pain of life through different artistic mediums including ceramics, lacquer painting and performance art.
Returning to the roots of life, may we all someday arrive at a place of peace, where the light gets in.
CIP Final Project #4 - déjà vu | 「
We all have our own ways of recording an instant - through writing or illustration, snapping or filming. Each instant becomes unique moments due to its geographical settings, structural characteristics, interrelationship with the surroundings, as well as one‘s perception. The captured moments linger in our minds, along with the memories they resemble. We relive the moments as we go through the records in different media, yet our impressions evolve with the passage of time or the change in context.
The showcase features the works of Anthony Lee, with a series of his memory fragments. The collection of mix-media pieces invites visitors to experience his stories through visual, acoustic and tactile sensations.
CIP Final Project #3 - Rituals of Passage - A Graduation Show of the Plague Year | 「策展培育計劃」成果展 #3 -「Rituals of Passage - A Graduation Show of the Plague Year」
Curated by Lesley Cheung, Rituals of Passage - A Graduation Show of the Plague Year is a mise-en-scène of resilient living. Contemplating on disruption and discomfort during the plague years of 2019-2021 in Hong Kong, 6 artists stage their perspectives on self-discovery, coping strategies and meaning making.
由 Lesley Cheung 策畫,「Rituals of Passage - A Graduation Show of the Plague Year」呈現具韌力的生活場景。
CIP Final Project #2 - Nothing Has Happened |「
Are you ready for more shows to come in 2022? Come visit our Final Project #2 - 𝙉𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙃𝙖𝙨 𝙃𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙙 presented by CIP graduate Emilie Choi Sin Yi. Opening on Jan 5th at 7pm at HART Haus.
𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘏𝘢𝘴 𝘏𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘥 is a novel written by Hong Kong writer Chan Koon-chung, depicting a dying man who has recalled the social turbulence of Hong Kong from 1984 to 1998, and interweaving the historical events with personal memory. Beyond the grand narrative, how can we perceive the complex historical trajectory through an individual? This exhibition unfolds with moving image works by Chan Tze-woon and performance art by Florence Lam, connecting as a maze of memory. It examines the unspoken present social discourse in the lens of two different mediums — moving image and body. Between the visible and the disgusted, history is like "nothing has happened".
“The Struggle toward the heights is enough to fill a man's heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy.” - Albert Camus, The Myth of Sisyphus.
The global pandemic reshuffled our daily physical lives which led to a whole new inward discovery of the most fundamental self in the digital age. By demonstrating the omnipresent lingering of a "corporate world", the show wants to amplify the astonishment of the spectator by creating the compositions. The constant disagreement between our conscious and subconscious mind comes into dialogue in art creation, and in the process, a conflict resolved in composition. Public-___ (ex. housing, good, discourse, etc.). What does it mean for something to be public in Hong Kong? There are a lot of memories that do not exist and even the actual realised memory could be not real or just the edit someone chooses to believe. Modern art is getting ridiculous. “Really, my painting feels like an explosion of my hidden fear, including anger and lust these days.” She crossed her heart and rolled the dice. Can you come out on top on a hand dealt by Destiny?
公共–_(例如住房、商品、話語等)。
CIP Final Project #1 - Casualty of Loss |「
Join us for Casualty of Loss - Final Project for HART Curatorship Incubation Programme in a showcase format presented by Olivia Lo and Ida Mak. Opening on Nov 2 at 5pm at HART Haus.
From “casual” to “a chance event” to “an unfortunate event”. How did the word ‘casualty’ derive from a light tone to such a negative connotation? Countless uncertainties have been raised during this difficult time around the world. We have experienced loss of many kinds: loss of loved ones, loss of identity, loss of relationship, loss of feelings, loss of direction... We are all casualties of loss. But can we possibly turn this idea around? Casualty of Loss is an exploratory experience that questions and challenges the potential spectrum of “Loss”. Can we turn away the pessimistic association from “casualty” and “loss”, and add an uplifting spirit to these two words?

Life is a Journey |
For his 25th exhibition: “LIFE IS A JOURNEY”, Antoine Rameau, a French artist calling Hong Kong his home for 8 years, has created a black ink painted collages series, that must be seen as a mural fresco.
Those 10 puzzle-pieces integrate strong Asian art influences: black Chinese ink painting, Japanese woodblock printing on paper (ukiyo-e) and the repeated circle shape, symbol of perfection (associated to the Moon or the Sun, the Ying and Yang…).
The cave-like stalagtites and stalagmites also refer to traditionally painted Chinese Yellow Mountains in Anhui province, that he loves.
Rameau sees today’s life as an epic underwater cave diving journey! From the day we are born to the last one, we all navigate in a long cavern-shaped tunnel and must avoid daily obstacles, up and down. Sometimes the path is broad and easy (happiness, joy, mindfulness…), sometimes it is very narrow and difficult (fear, sadness, phobia…). The key to a safe life journey is our own ability to be a careful and attentive pilot between those two extremes, highlighted by black and white colors and opposite papers textures, of the genuine, damaged and ripped 1930’s French “L’Illustration” magazines he used.
