Angela Huang’s story is one of perseverance and the slow, steady trek towards one’s dreams. Embracing change is never easy, especially when it involves letting go of stability. After working as a consultant for years, she made the decision to pursue art full time almost a year ago in mid 2025. “There was no promotion ladder, no one assigning the next project, and no external recognition of the work I was making,” Huang elaborates.
In the beginning, pursuing the arts was just as isolating as it was fulfilling. The conversion of her home into a functioning studio space involved disassembling her bed and an absence of interaction with others; which she sorely missed from her previous work in consultancy. Joining HART HAUS gave her the luxury of choosing between working in her private studio space, or to spend time surrounded by fellow creatives.

“HART HAUS has given me people that I admire,” Huang shares, “I love the inspiration I get here and the connectivity. Having this separate workspace has also allowed me to experiment and push my work forward in different ways.”
In terms of her art, Huang states that she is “primarily a painter”, but has been experimenting with mixed-media art using wonton noodles for a while. “They represent my household vernacular,” the artist shares. The noodles are braided, twisted and coated with resin for both longevity and shape. “I want to take this inherited material with all the love and constraints it embodies, and express it in my own terms.” Though many of the pieces in question are not available to view in person at HART HAUS, below are some of the many paintings borne of Huang’s experimentation with the noodles.

If she had to summarise her work with one word, it would be ‘personal’. Not only does working as an artist at HART HAUS allow her to put her innermost thoughts and feelings on canvas, but it also provides her with a unique opportunity to learn and grow from other active practitioners across various creative fields.
“Just two days ago I was at a workshop here, learning how to manage contracts. And then it was learning how to felt, or how to weave a basket from bamboo. It’s things like this that remind me just how diverse the community at HART HAUS is.”
In the near future Huang plans to find ways to give back to the community at HART HAUS. “I don’t know how that will take form yet, but what’s next for me is moving from being someone who benefits from the community to someone that can contribute too.”
